Introduction to HIPAA Compliance
"Introduction to HIPAA Compliance" is a course designed for medical professionals as an introduction to HIPAA compliance and rules.
Project Objectives
The goal for this project was to design a way for health professionals to be introduced to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) concepts and rules in a way that would result in long-lasting memory. Through the creation of an engaging and relevant course, learners were provided with an effective introduction to HIPAA basics before progressing to certification courses.
This easily accessible online course introduces the topic of HIPAA to learners through interactive activities such as card sorting, term matching, and scenario walk-throughs.

After conducting needs, task, and learner analyses, I began planning the details of how this course would progress. From learning objectives to content and activities, each aspect was researched and developed before the design of the course was considered. Using the needs, task, and learner analyses I was then able to determine the best design and context for how the course would be implemented and delivered.

Ultimately, it was determined that an online and highly interactive course would be the most effective and beneficial learning experience for an audience that was spread out geographically and varied significantly in backgrounds. Using Articulate's Rise 360, this easy-to-follow and accessible training course was developed. Design options and interactive activities were compared for effectiveness with the course content resulting in a course that would have a lasting impact on its learners.
Project Process
Lessons Learned
Developing and designing this course provided me with a learning opportunity while creating one for other individuals. Rise 360 was a new application for me so there was an initial learning curve while adapting to a new layout and functionality. The design experience was very enjoyable for me as I was able to gain exposure to an application that is widely used in the instructional design field.
