Equipment and Technology Tip Sheets
Step-by-step instructions and important details on these tip sheets support learners in regard to using new medical equipment and technologies.
Project Objectives
Multiple new or updated pieces of equipment and technology were put in place at a new medical facility. Staff transferring to the new facility had already been practicing in the medical field and had experience with similar pieces of equipment resulting in minor knowledge gaps with the new instruments. The objective of these deliverables was to provide a resource for the staff to learn from and refer to while working with the new equipment that may have slight differences from the tools that were previously used.
Using Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, multiple tip sheets and job aids were developed. Each piece of equipment was supplied by a different vendor therefore meetings were held with each vendor to receive a demonstration of proper use as well as any materials they were able to provide on their product. The instructions provided from the demonstration and additional materials were then used to create the tip sheets and job aids with a focus on layout, composition, and color. Design decisions were made to promote quick comprehension of complex tasks that would be easily understood by a wide variety of learners.
Project Process
Lessons Learned
Like the other deliverables created during the completion of this specific healthcare facility project, the tip sheets and job aids taught me a lot of lessons about how to effectively get work done in a professional setting as well as technical design skills. Scheduling for a project of this magnitude is a challenge in itself and I learned that time is of the essence while working with vendors, stakeholders, trainers, trainees, and more. Content can change daily and many iterations of the deliverables may be needed making it very important to stay on top of the design and development phases to be able to produce all of the learning materials on time.
