Project Objectives

Originally, the vision for this project was to design an online course focused on teaching Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) to individuals involved in youth sports within the State of Georgia. After the design and development of many iterations, the course objectives shifted directions and ultimately resulted in a comprehensive online course where a wide range of individuals could gain experience with Emergency Action Plan development.

This interactive course introduces the practice of Emergency Action Plan development to learners through engagement with readings, videos, clickable content, Open Education Resources, and quizzes.

An initial set of meetings were conducted with the Subject Matter Expert and Stakeholders in order to build a firm understanding of the needs to be addressed within the course as well as to ensure that all individuals involved in the project were on the same page. Upon establishing what the initial desire for a course was, I completed my own learner and need analysis. With the issues the team was looking to resolve and the audience that this course would be directed towards, I determined that it would be more beneficial to alter the content of the course and some of the technical aspects.

With the approval of content and design, I moved forward with the development of the course. To successfully develop a course that was effective for the learners and met the requirements and desires of the Subject Matter Expert and Stakeholders, I referred to the ADDIE and Successive Approximation Models as well as Bloom's Taxonomy. Articulate Storyline was utilized in the technical development of the course. Additional detailed information about the project processes can be accessed through the "Explore More" button.

Project Process

Lessons Learned

The development of this interactive and accessible course provided opportunities to expand on both technical and soft skills as they apply in the corporate instructional design field. Details, as minuscule as the location of "Next" buttons, had to be attended to in order for a high-quality course to be delivered. This project brought to light the timeline required for such projects, especially when courses are being developed individually rather than on a team. From this experience, I have learned the value in conducting preliminary meetings and establishing deliverable content and timelines to prevent late requests from delaying the project.
